This alternative route gives you the opportunity to discover the abbey of Farfa, one of the most important Benedictine abbeys in Central Italy. From Ponticelli di Scandriglia you return along the route you covered the previous day in order to reach the junction (approximately 5 km from Ponticelli) directing you to the abbey of Farfa. The journey to the abbey has various uphill and downhill stretches, but these are never challenging. As you walk, you will come across a unique building called "I massacci", built over a 2nd-century tomb. The route intersects the ancient "Salaria" consular road. At the end of the downhill stretch, you will reach the abbey of Farfa (22 km). You can decide (and it is advisable) to sleep in the area, so that you can take the opportunity to visit this place of art and silence. From the abbey, the route continues uphill with a significant slope. You will walk through the localities of Fara in Sabina, Montegrottone, Canneto and Corese Terra until you reach the district of Acquaviva in the municipality of Nerola. From here, the alternative route joins the main route.
