This leg is the first stretch of the detour of the Roman Way and goes through the lower Valnerina past the Cascate delle Marmore falls, Terni, Stroncone and Greccio before you reach Rieti.It is a relatively hard ride, especially in view of the final climb up to Stroncone, but it passes by many really lovely places along the way.The first kilometres are over the greenway of the Nera River and follow the same route as the #10 Scheggino-Piediluco stretch. Once in Arrone, however, you head straight onwards through the Valnerina, skipping the Forca di Arrone climb that goes straight to Piediluco. Instead you will go see the spectacle of the Cascate delle Marmore falls, where you can take advantage of a road that goes by the little ticket office to avoid a dangerous tunnel.After a few kilometres along the main road through the Valnerina, head up towards Papigno and then down to the entrance to Terni. Do drive carefully in this part of town, traffic can be heavy.Once you leave Terni, head to Stroncone, which you will reach after a gradual ascent of some 5 kilometres.
