This leg goes from the St. Francis Sanctuary at Greccio to Rieti, reconnecting the Roman Way detour that goes through Terni with the main Way, and then continues on to Rome.It is an easy route that is also ideal for resting your legs after the previous day’s strenuous ride, the most difficult of the entire journey. Today’s route is little more than 20 km long, starts off downhill and the total climb is modest. You will reach your destination rather quickly and that means you will have plenty of time to relax and enjoy exploring the historical centre of Rieti. The point of departure is from the Sanctuary of St. Francis and runs back over the last part of yesterday’s route, which means that the first kilometers are all downhill, so enjoy the beautiful views of the Rieti Valley. At the end of the downhill run turn right towards Contigliano and then travel over the plains towards Piani di Sant’Elia, which will take you to the outskirts of Rieti. Beware of traffic as you reach town, especially at the juncture with the Via Salaria, before crossing the bridge over the Velino River, and then continue onwards for less than a kilometer uphill to get to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.
