The route’s starting point is the Duomo of Monterotondo. The trail will first take you through the lovely rural landscape of the Roman countryside and while there are a few climbs and a few descents, none of them are difficult. You will go towards Valle Ricca and soon be inside the lovely nature reserve of Marcigliana. Crops are still grown and animals set out to pasture on the low gently rolling hills, while the valley’s slopes are home to oak trees. The scene is further graced with old rural houses and medieval watch towers. It was here that the old Latin city of Crustumerium once rose, along an old road that connected Etruria and Campania. As you get closer, on a clear day, you can sometimes spot the dome of St. Peter’s in the far distance. When you leave the nature reserve you will enter the urban reality of outskirts of Rome. Those who have many days of bucolic walks under their proverbial belts will have to get used to the new surroundings, but the delights of civilization do offer the chance to slake thirst and quiet hunger pangs during a well-deserved break. The walk ends in front of the church of Angeli Custodi in Piazza Sempione, in the district of Monte Sacro.

For water supply along the route there are bars and water sources in urban centers. Remember to make an abundant water supply.

Intermediate stages
There are resting areas where you can stop and take a regenerative break or find accommodation and shorten this leg of the journey.

Suggestions
The Marcigliana reserve is graced with natural beauty and archaeological sites that make the visit worth the while.
