This leg goes from Stroncone to Scheggino, passing through Terni and the amazing Cascata delle Marmore falls before reconnecting with the main Southern Way.The route is not difficult in and of itself, made up of a long series of up and downhill stretches that, at the end of the day, add up to a hefty total climb and even sore legs. You depart from Stroncone and the first kilometres towards Terni are almost all downhill. Beware of gradually increasing traffic as you near the city, which also remains rather heavy along the first kilometres as you head to the Valnerina. Once out of Terni, continue towards Papigno, where you’ll find a few kilometres of ascent before you head back down again into the Valnerina and reach the Cascate delle Marmore falls, an amazing spectacle that suddenly appears in front of you. From here you travel up the Valnerina along the Nera river Greenway, an alternating series of dirt tracks and narrow secondary roads far from traffic that go past such charming little towns as Castel di Lago and Arrone. It is at Arrone that you reconnect with the classic Southern Way, travelling once again along the Greenway past Ferentillo, Macenano and Ceselli before you reach the little town of Scheggino, cut in half by the clear cool waters of the Nera river.
